The Helicta Satyr was recently described as a separate species from the Georgia Satyr. Both
of these Helictas were at the same location on a certain road at Big Lazar W.M.A. The second
was photoed exactly one year to the day after the first.
Both appeared larger than a Little Wood-Satyr.
These rare and local butterflies seem to inhabit grassy roadsides in dry open pine forests.
Terry, Jerry and Rose were able to find three on this same road during the butterfly count in 2007.
