Silvery Checkerspots are found throughout our area, mainly in localized colonies around river floodplains and
creeks, but occasionally occur in drier upland pine forests. At times they are abundant along the Flint
River in Taylor, Talbot, and Upson Counties.
Flight: April - September/October.
The two in the top right photograph were behaving in a manner that I had not witnessed before. They
were on a place of sunlit ground in the middle of the woods, encircled by shadows from the canopy. They
would rise together into the air, swirling and spinning upward to a height of about forty feet. This was repeated
many times.
